Transformer Protection Simulation Experimental Unit

This set up is designed to study the various protection scheme of three phase Transformer set up using digital type (PLI or reputed Make) power systems protection relays. it consists of

  1. 3Ø /2KVA 3 phase Transformer set up
  2. Power systems Protection Relays (Differential Relay, Over current & EF Relay, OV/UV Relay)
  3. Meter panel with R loads& Fault simulator

One number of 3 phase transformer with primary & secondary tapings is provided with following specification

  • Input                                     :           0-230VAC  ( R phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75,100% tapping’s

:           0-230VAC  ( Y phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75 ,100% tapping’s

:           0-230VAC  ( B phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75 ,100% tapping’s

  • Output                                     :           0-230VAC  ( R phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75 ,100% tapping’s

:           0-230VAC  ( Y phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75,100% tapping’s

:           0-230VAC  ( B phase ) with 25 , 50 ,75,100% tapping’s

  • Capacity                                     :           2KVA
  • Connection                                     :           STAR/DELTA
  • Both Primary & secondary tapping’s are terminated in front panel for simulating fault

Power systems Protection Relays

This set up consists of the following relays to study the various protection using relays.

  • One number of Over Current Relays &  Earth Fault Relays (MAKE C&S)
  • One number of Over/under Voltage Relays (MAKE C&S)
  • One number of 3 phase differential relay (MAKE C&S/PLI)

Relay specifications

  • All Relays are digital & microcontroller based , PLI Make
  • DMT & IDMT Mode of operation
  • One numbers of ‘NC’ & ‘NO’ Contacts are provided in all relays
  • LCD is provided to indicate the parameters
  • Digital keys are provided to set the parameter
  • Suitable CT & PT’s are provided for all relay’s for alternator matching
  • CT & PT inputs are terminated in relays back side
  • All relays CT Ratings are 1amp & All relays PT Ratings are 110V

Current Transformer & Potential Transformer

  • Necessary Current Transformer (more than 6 numbers) with suitable ratings and PY &SY side matched with transformer & Relay rating
  • Necessary Potential Transformer with suitable ratings and PY &SY side matched with with transformer & Relay rating
  • All relays specification matched with transformer specification using CT/PT’s
  • All are mounted on anice cabinet with necessary diagram indication

Meter panel with R loads.

  • Three no. of ac digital ammeter provided for transformer primary current measurement.
  • Three no. of ac digital ammeter provided for transformer secondary current measurement.
  • Three no. of ac digital voltmeter provided for Transformer input voltage measurement.
  • Three no. of ac digital voltmeter provided for Transformer output voltage measurement.
  • One number of three phases Lamp load provided (2KVA) with diff-load selector switch.

Fault simulator & Trip time measurement set up

  • One number 3 phase Autotransformer -2kva is provided to simulate the Over voltage & under voltage faults
  • One number short circuit resistor with start & stop circuit using contactor is provided to simulate the short circuit faults  & earth fault
  • One number of Automatic trip time measurement circuit (ATTM Circuit) is provided for Relay trip time measurement
    • One number START push button is provided in ATTM Circuit
    • One number STOP push button is provided in ATTM Circuit
    • One number Digital stop Clock is provided in ATTM Circuit to measure relay trip time
  • All are mounted on a nice cabinet with diagram stickered front panel.
  • 230VAC@50Hz AC Input with power ON/OFF Switch
  • 3 phase 440vac input for transformer section
