Speed Control of DC Series Motor using SCR DC Chopper (Jones Chopper)

This trainer is designed to study the open loop speed of dc series motor using SCR Based DC-DC Chopper circuit (Jones Chopper). This set up consists of,

 Microcontroller based PWM Controller

This PWM controller is designed based on Dspic30f4011 controller chip specially designed for Power Electronics & Motor control applications from “MICROCHIP” company  and  this controller can be used  to generate  PWM Signals for SCR DC-DC Chopper  based DC Motor speed control application. PWM output of this controller can be directly interfaced with Power Module through External cable connection.

 Jones Chopper Power circuit-1KW

This power module is designed by using SCR , Diode & Commutating components  for DC-DC Jones Chopper Circuits .This power module can be used for DC Motor open loop speed control application by   external PWM controller interfacing.

Power Circuits

  • Two number of 1200V,27A SCR with heat-sink is provided for Power circuit
  • One number of Power diode (25A,600V) & Inductor (Centre Tapped)-5A & Commutating Capacitor is provided to form JONES CHOPPER Power Circuit
  • Necessary Commutating Capacitor is provided to form JONES CHOPPER Power Circuit
  • 2Numbers of Pulse isolation & Amplifier circuits
  • SCR Pulse input terminated in front panel connector for external pulse input connection
  • MCB is provided for power circuit input ON/OFF & Protection
  • Single phase diode rectifier & Filter circuit is provided for AC-DC Conversion
  • DC Voltmeter ( 0-300VDC) is provided to indicate power circuit input dc voltage
  • All necessary test points are provided for external patching
  • All are mounted on a nice cabinet with sticker front panel with mimic diagram
